The Curious Gardener, Anna Pavord, 2010
Using the calendar beginning in January, Pavord takes the reader through the year’s garden development and tasks with a bright, British sense of humor and practicality. Full of interesting factoids (‘a tree provides 5 pounds of leaf litter per square yard of ground under the tree’; ‘one hour of lawnmower use equals 350 miles of driving a car in pollution’), useful suggestions, and lots of specific favorite plant names, Pavord should be forgiven the occasional and usually unintelligible British euphemism and valued for the fun trip through the gardening year that she provides with laugh out loud humor and deep knowledge. A good book for curling up on a winter’s day and contemplating your upcoming gardening year.
