Fictitious Dishes:  An Album of Literature’s Most Memorable Meals, Dinah Fried, 2014

This idiosyncratic little book began as a design project by the author, a student at Rhode Island School of Design.  An avid reader, a designer, and a cook, she combined those interests and created and then photographed meals from 50 of her favorite works of literature.  Widely ranging from Blueberries for Sal to Moby Dick, from Ulysses and To the Lighthouse to modern best sellers by Eugenides, Lethem, Ellis and even Jacqueline Susann.  The photos are vivid and quite beautiful, featuring the food, utensils, and adornments mentioned in the literary work.  The author adds footnotes about the work or about the food and the era in which both were presented.  A fun distraction on a rainy day in Vermont!
