Wherever You Go There You Are, Jon Kabat-Zinn, 1994

Kabat-Zinn is arguably the founder of the modern mindfulness revolution, and this book was his second to promote that concept.  The key phrase of ‘purposeful attention to the present moment without judgment’ appears and is stressed through the book.  Kabat-Zinn urges the reader to stop living automatically and without purpose and to achieve consciousness and direction by focusing on the present, moment by moment by moment.   Through practical tips about sitting, walking, lying meditations using mountains or lakes for images, the author tries to help the novice develop a regular ‘practice’ in order to have mindfulness be a part of daily life and achieve inner peace and wisdom.  Not great writing, but very useful.
