Lighthead: Poems, Terrance Hayes, 2010

The fourth volume of poetry by this young, Black, much –heralded American poet.  Some of the poems lost me with their contemporary references and free verse style, but others were insightful and had some ‘aha’ moments.  In follow up to Clive James’ description of poetry as involving drastic rearrangements of reality, Hayes refers to “Not what you see but what you perceive: that’s poetry.  Not the noise, but its rhythm, an arrangement of derangements.”  Excellent!
