The Power of Trees, Gretchen Daily and Charles Katz, 2012

A Stanford Professor of Environmental Sciences and a Nature Conservancy Board member combine lyrical prose and science with photographs from the Skagit River in Washington State to make the case for conservation.  Many fascinating facts about trees. The tallest at 379 feet tall is limited only by the ability to pump water against gravity.  A single large tree may pump a ton of water into the sky during a single day.  There are 60,000 varieties of trees which appeared and have been evolving for 400 million years.   Great photos.
