Back Spin, Harlan Coben, 1997
Another Myron Bolitar/Windsor Lockwood Hunt story that stretches credulity but keeps the reader nailed to the page turning. In this weird story focused on golf, the U.S. Open, and a golfer with a history of choking in the same tournament on the same course 23 years earlier, we are embroiled in a kidnapping, multiple murders, and ancient history which tie together Winn, his mother, and the golfer. It’s all quite silly, but Myron continues to sparkle with witty bon mots and clever repartee. We learn some interesting things about Winn’s childhood and Esperanza makes her move to become a partner now that she has her law degree. Good distraction while battling anaplasmosis!
