The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks 2010

A remarkable first book combines the story of HeLa cells and tissue culture and the plight of poor, Black families in the U.S.  The latter is much more compelling and discouraging for me—endless cycle of poverty, poor and brief education, crime, drug abuse domestic abuse and general hopelessness.  Henretta’s cells may be ‘saving the world’ but her progeny and their progeny are not.  Ugh!
