Where The Rivers Flow North, Howard Frank Mosher, 1978

Mosher captures the character and challenges of life in the Northeast Kingdom in early 20th Vermont in a series of short stories and the eponymous novella.  Wonderful characters like Noel Anderson, Bangor, his Indian housekeeper/lover, Henry Coville, and the residents of Kingdom Common as they struggle with the changing world, exemplified by the electric power company which threatens Noel’s land, dam, pond, bog, horse and dog.  Superb characters caught up in a terrific story.
