Walking Artist, Hamish Fulton, 2001

Fulton, born in London in 1946, is an artist whose work reflects and is reflected in his walks.   He walks, mostly alone, camping along the way and taking photographs in order to create his prints and paintings.  Bolivia, Argentina, Nepal, India, Tibet, Portugal, Spain, Switzerland, France, England, Scotland, Wales, Wyoming, Montana, and Alaska provide the canvases for this wonderful work.  Art is control and walking is freedom according to Fulton, and combining them in tracing the altitude, logging the distance and time, and otherwise describing the walk via his art is Fulton’s oeuvre.  “I have chosen to record my walks out of respect for their existence.
