The Importance of Being Ernest, Oscar Wilde 1894

Wilde’s 1894 comedy is as fresh and funny today as it was more than 100 years ago.  The ridiculous manners  of the upper class Victorians are mercilessly satirized along with the standard theatrical mechanism of a ‘lost child’ turning up as a late-in-life success.  Jack Worthing and Algernon Moncrieff, both at times Ernest, turn out to be in fact brothers while their Aunt, Lady Bracknel,l is the unwitting agent who uncovers their kinship and enables their marriages.  Great lines and a fun read!
