The Book of My Lives, Alexandre Hemon, 2012
A memoir by a Bosnian émigré living in Chicago. The pain and dislocation of the émigré is a constant presence in this story of leaving Sarajevo and the Balkan War, settling in Chicago, learning English by being a flaneur, marrying and divorcing, losing a 2 year old child to a brain tumor. This is a beautiful but painful book.
