The Best of Me by David Sedaris 2020
Can we ever use a few laughs these days what with COVID, Afghanistan, hurricanes, forest fires, and the ongoing idiocy of the trumpster Right! And what better way to get those laughs than to curl up with David Sedaris’s weird sense of humor and his strange and lovable family.
This collection of his essays (his term) and stories (the publisher’s term on the cover) from the last 25 years is outstanding. Despite having read many of them in The New Yorker or in their original books, I loved all of them again and persistently laughed out loud, sometimes waking my lovely, sleeping wife.
This is the kind of bedside book you can dip into whenever there’s the slimmest possibility that you can read several pages before dropping off. I hope you will. You won’t regret it.
