Jack Reacher’s final days with the U.S. Army are spent in Carter Crossing, MS just west of Fort Kelham where the Army Rangers train and deploy secretly to Kosovo.  Three beautiful women in town are murdered and suspicion falls on the Company Commander at the Fort, the son of the U. S. Senator who chairs the Armed Services Committee and on the Sheriff of Carter Crossing, Elizabeth Devereaux, a beautiful woman as well. Reacher kills 3 people (a quiet book for him) en route to solving the crime, cleaning things up, and ending up separated from the Army.
