&Sons, David Gilbert, 2013

An egotistical, distant, famous author father; a son who is a recovered addict working in addiction treatment on the West Coast with a wife and two sons; a second son who is a slightly well known documentary film maker; a third son born to  a different mother late in the author’s life who is the sum of all of his father’s hopes and dreams; the wannabe son who is the narrator of this tale and who is actually the son of the author’s best friend from school and the object of his famous first novel; the divorced wife.  All gather in NYC for several days of chaos and conflict.  A modern family tragedy ending in death and despair.  Some wonderful writing.
