A new member of my ‘favorite essayists’ pantheon arrives with funny and perceptive tales of our contemporary world including Fundamentalist and Tea Party gatherings, music criticism (Michael Jackson, Axyl Rose), and a wonderful tale of an eccentric French naturalist, Constantin Rafinisque who was perhaps more influential than the better-known Audobon.
