Gunther along with an old friend who’s chief of police in the eponymous Northampton, Massachusetts, a Boston police detective, a Holyoke police officer and Willy form a task force to end a breaking and entering, arson and fencing operation. Separate tales of the robbers, the police, the fencers, Willy and Sammie, and even an illegal Chinese immigrant jewelry maker get tied up neatly in an exciting finish. A good yarn.
