Othello, Moor of Venice, William Shakespeare, 1602
Another tragedy of miscommunication though largely the intention of the incredibly evil Iago, ensign to Othello, a general in the employ of the Venetians sent to Cyprus to defend it from the Turks. Cassio, named his lieutenant instead of Iago, is falsely implicated by Iago in adultery with Desdemona and Othello’s jealousy leads him to see what Iago suggests. Rodrigo, Desdemona, Emilia and Othello are dead on the stage by the end of Act V and Iago is taken off to torture, prison, and death and none too early.
