On the Map, Simon Garfield, 2013
If you want to read 464 pages about the history of maps (and I would recommend you do!), this book is for you. In the same way that he brought fonts to life, Garfield makes maps from the Library of Alexandria in 330BC to modern GPS and video games a wonderful treat. From the Greek Ptolemy (150AD) to Mercator’s projection that is still in use (1550) to guidebooks, globes, and map thieves, this is a fun read.
