Old Age: A Beginner’s Guide, Michael Kinsley, 2016

Kinsley, a young Baby Boomer approaching 65 who has had Parkinson’s Disease for more than 20 years, provides a humorous but chilling account of growing old backing up his assertions with lots of statistics.  The boomers, moving from the game of ‘he with the most toys wins’ to the game of ‘he who lives longer with his marbles wins’, are about to experience the loss of physical and mental capacity and it’s not pretty.  Kinsley does a pretty good job of lightening the mood, but in the long run, as Keynes said, we’re all dead.  In a rather unique aside, he acknowledges that the boomers have ruined the world, but says that we can catch up to the Greatest Generation of our parents by simply paying off the national debt of $70 trillion.  It’s the least we can do as we shuffle off to Buffalo.
