Mission to Paris, Alan Furst, 2012

Another fast-paced spy/intrigue set in Paris just on the edge of World War II in 1938. The Kristallnacht and Chamberlain’s appeasement provide background to the story of Frederic Stahl, an American movie idol who goes to Paris to make a movie and is swept up with the German/French/U.S. maneuvering before war actually breaks out. Used by the Nazis, Stahl decides to fight back, spying for the U.S. Embassy until he is outed and hunted by the Nazis. A final escape caps a good story.
