Hopper in Vermont, Bonnie Tocher Clause, 2012

Hopper (b.1882-d.1967) spent time in Vermont on at least three trips between 1927 and 1938.  During the latter trip he stayed with a farm family in South Royalton and did watercolors and drawings in the local area.  An exhibit at Middlebury College’s Art Museum brought these works together for the first time, and the exhibition book provides great detail on Hopper’s work in VT, including visits to Windsor and Hartland.  Superb history of Vermont artists of the 20th
