Fatherless Woman, June Robertson Beisch 2004

A lovely book of poems by a woman who died in 2009 and who lived around the corner from us in Cambridge.  I was given this book by her husband, Chuck, when we had coffee a few weeks ago.  I read it in Vermont at one sitting.  Poems about family (the title refers to her father who died young, leaving a widow and four daughters), place (Minnesota, Cambridge, Cape Cod), aging and illness, poetry and teaching, and nature’s beauty.  Some lovely phrases and images.  Her poem “To a Young Son” was the featured poem in the Writer’s Almanac two days ago. Wish I had known her more than to just say hello!
