Event Horizon:  Madison Square Art of Anthony Gormley, ed Colm Toibin  2011

A series of essays and beautiful, eerie photographs of the installation of 31 of Gormley’s works—not exactly statues, body casts, or reproductions of naked men standing larger than the humans around them at ground level or towering above them on rooftops, balconies, and other architectural elements around Madison Square Park in NYC.  Colm Toibin wrote the leadoff essay—a rambling discourse on his NYC male lover, rejection, and urban angst. The other essays are by architects, graphic designers, building managers, and restauraneurs.  NYC’s uniqueness, the beauty of its buildings, ad the ability of art to alter our souls make this a worthwhile slim volume.
