Constancia and Other Stories for Virgins, Carlos Fuentes 1990

A book of long short stories by Mexico’s most-heralded modern author.  Writing with a combination of contemporary settings and fantasy, he places his characters in Mexico, Madrid, Charleston, S.C., and Andulasia.  Events occur without rational explanation and even Walter Benjamin and his failed escape over the Pyrenees makes an appearance. The writing is beautifully descriptive and the irrational/fantastical become believable.
