Best American Poetry, 2010 ed. Amy Gerstler 2010
How do you comment on a collection of 75 poems from authors as well known as Simic, Updike, Wolcott, Olds, Merwin, Stern, Tate, Rich, Gluck, Collins and Ashbery and as little known as the others. What a variety! The contributors’ notes were almost as interesting as the poems. The authors are as young as 30 and as old as 85 and two are even dead. Born to poverty, divorce, and abuse or born with a silver spoon in NYC or anywhere USA, they teach at universities, vie for prizes and recognition in small literary journals and express their inner thoughts with beauty.
