A World in One Cubic Foot: Portraits of Biodiversity, Daivd Liittschwager, 2012

A beautifully photographed and presented paeon to nature’s diversity, richness, beauty, creativity and fragility by a talented photographer, with prose by E. O. Wilson and six authors including Elizabeth Kolbert and August Kleinzahler. Each section focuses on a single example of a biological environment—a saltwater bay, a cloud forest, a coral reef, a deciduous forest, a freshwater river, and a mountain fynbos. In each setting the author uses a one cubic foot metal frame to identify an environment in which he enumerates, identifies, and photographs all the living creatures and plants above a certain size. Spectacular photos of insects, fish, birds, and invertebrates. Great concept carried out very successfully!
