A century of recorded poetry

A Century of Recorded Poetry, 4-CD boxed set, 1996

From a scratchy recording of Walt Whitman reading “America” to some modern poets (latest born in 1957; they’re arranged in order of birth) whom I’ve never heard of (Herrara, Forche, Harjo, Tafolla, Baca, Taphonso), there are 80 poets reading, including Yeats, Frost, Moore, Lowell, Millay, Cummings, Kunitz and others. Thrilling to hear their voices, cadence, timbre, emphasis, etc. Alan Ginsberg reading “America” is a highlight. Written insert by Erica Jong, Al Young and Rebekah Presson in 1996.
