The Layered Garden, David Culp, 2012

A delightful, beautifully illustrated, practical book about the development of his garden, Brandywine Cottage, in Zone 6, Pennsylvania. A two-acre site with an old house, berm, ruin, and hillside, Culp explains his design goals for multiple beds and dotes on his favorite collectible plants—galanthus and hellebores primarily but including peonies, epimideum alliums, roses, and narcissus. A great read for the deep winter gardener dreaming of Spring.
