The Drop, Michael Connelly, 2011
A superb Harry Bosch tale with two parallel but separate investigations. One involving “high jingo” is the apparent suicide of the son of Bosch’s old nemesis Irvin Irving. The other is a cold case in which DNA points to a child molester for a 20-year-old murder. Politics, the media, a love interest in a therapist, and lots of dark stuff combine for a terrific detective story. Bosch’s retirement is put off five more years—good news.
