Sweet Tooth, Ian McEwan, 2012
McEwan’s latest novel is one of three by him on this year’s list. Characterized by his usual artistry with words, plot, narrative pace, and vivid characters, this is a tale of Cold War spying with the usual McEwan twist which I’ve come to both anticipate with eagerness and with resentment for his being an unreliable narrator. At least it’s not as violent as his prior books.
