Eat and Run: My Unlikely Journey to Ultramarathon Greatness, Scott Jurek, 2012
A great follow-up to Born to Run. Jurek describes his challenged childhood, how he started cross country skiing and then long distance running. Winner of the Western States 100×4, the Backwater, and dozens of other races and records, he makes the case for long distance running as a way to reach another zone (?endogenous opiates) and prove and know yourself. He also includes recipes for many vegan dishes. Entertaining. perhaps most interesting is the contrast between his version and Chris McDougall’s version of the Caballo Blanco race in the Copper Canyon.
