This book of essays is among the strangest and most interesting I’ve read, varying from a few lines to a few pages, a mix of poetry and prose, and stylistically heterogeneous.  Wright weaves a rich tapestry of observations of her own work (Words), loving commentary on her favorite poets and artists (William Carlos Williams, Robert Creeley, John Taggert, Anne Truitt, Agnes Martin, Jean Valentine, Brenda Hillman and others), the definition and impact of poetry (quoting many other poets),   and current events.  This quirky book has some beautiful, lyrical passages and reflects the author’s deep engagement and love of writing and her fellow poets.  A MacArthur award winner and Professor at Brown, Wright went to sleep one night earlier this year at the age of 67 and never work up.  A profound loss for the world of poetry and writing in general.
